ALIMANGO FESTIVAL The Alimango Festival, also known as the "Katang Festival" or the "Crab Festival", is a seafood celebration held in the Philippine province of Quezon in the municipality of Calauag. It occurs on May 25 each year. The numerous barangay units of the municipality take part in this week-long festival. The Quezon province's center for crab and seaweed is Calauag. HISTORY The first Alimango Festival took place in 2005, and its name is derived from the Filipino word for crab, alimango. It is also referred to as the Katang Festival, which comes from the local word for the aforementioned sea creature, katang. The festival's mascot, the enormous mud crab known as Higanteng Alimango, serves as a symbol of the town's mud crab abundance. Farming of mud crabs is one of the primary livelihoods among the people in the town.
